Voices of the Unheard (Grade 2 Middle School Level)
Voices of the Unheard is dedicated to the voices of historically marginalized artists, composers, and musicians. Groups who have been silenced in the past include the voices of women, the disabled, and minority artists. These artists deserve the recognition that they now have but were once denied due to their status in society. Examples of great composers who faced these challenges include women such as Florence Price and Amy Beach. Throughout the piece, these trials and tribulations are translated into Music. In the beginning, this is displayed through the use of a melancholic tone. Towards the middle, there is a fast Marcato section that is followed by a Triumphant Finale. This Finale is designed to inspire hope for future artists. It is my sincere hope that these typically underrepresented artists (such as myself) can one day write and perform music while having access to the same resources and platform that their counterparts have been historically afforded.
